HOW HAVE YOU CELEBRATED AMERICAN CRAFT WEEK IN YOUR TOWN?
I'd love to hear other ideas for this celebration, which I hope will become an annual event.
At my main venue, Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts, we honored American craft by hosting daily demonstrations from a variety of our artists:
- Melanie Walter (pine needle basketry)
- Dianne Masi and Dory Maier (gourd art and pine needles)
- Mary Holden-Hall (clay)
- Louise Giordano (felting)
- Sara Westermark (metalsmithing)
- Pat Hart (clay), Dick Heiser (clay)
- Iris Simmons (quilting)
During my demo day, I produced a number of felted and nuno felted samples.
From these I created clip/brooches backed with an alligator clip and a pin for a variety of wearable ideas (on a bag or purse, clipped onto a neckline or lapel, in your hair. etc.) And here are the results!
The remainder will form felted buttons for use on bags or Angel Scarflettes.
On Saturday, I attended a hands-on workshop at Spectrum Art and Jewelry in which Kristin Gibson demonstrated painting on silk with Sharpies and markers. A fundraiser for the local Dreams of Wilmington, we each got to make and take a silk ornament! FUN and a terrific cause for children.
Also on Saturday, we attended Art in the Arboretum, a show I did last year, but couldn't this time. Perhaps next year!
