Port City Pottery and Fine Crafts in the Cotton Exchange in Wilmington NC continues to garner publicity as its artists contribute not only to the gallery but to regional and national publications. Just this week, two of our artists, Sara Westermark and Melanie Walter, both of whom have been showcased earlier on this blog, have received notification of their respective articles.

The amazing thing about Sara is that she's not only a talented metalsmith/jeweler (and mom!), but she also a gifted lyric soprano and voice teacher. Her students of disparate ages and immense talent regaled the shoppers at the Cotton Exchange with their carols at Christmas. Here is her article in Beat Magazine and a recent example of her new work.

Sara's generosity extends beyond the obvious. While working at PCPFC last week, she offered gracious and helpful suggestions for display, for my photography, for my banner on both Etsy and here, and then she pulled one of my cachecols to photograph and developed the new banner for both sites. Feel free to comment on the new banner. I love the way she's used the scarf's texture and color to more fully represent what I do. Thank you, Sara!

Here's a photo of the my cachecol, called Purple Melon and the new banner.

Melanie has been with Port City Pottery and Fine Crafts from the beginning (April 2007) and has evolved as an artist, creating pine needle baskets adorned with various other natural materials: clay, walnuts, bamboo, etc. She recently developed a line of clay earrings (with Sara's help!). A while back, she was invited to submit a photo and short essay for inclusion in the Online Insight Section of The Crafts Report's website. Scroll down the page to see Melanie's contributions. And here is just one example of Melanie's talents. Visit both Sara's and Melanie's Etsy shops for other examples.

I love the banner and I've decided that it needs a matching avatar!
