Preparing for My First Scarf It Up! Show - Art in the Arboretum

Well, I went and did it!  I passed the New Hanover County Arboretum twice last week, attracted by the sign that said, "Artists Wanted!" followed by a phone number that I couldn't possibly get while speeding by.  On the third pass, I decided to stop in and get details.  No one was available, but I was given an email address.  I contacted Barbara Bear Jamison who apparently went immediately to my photo websites and quickly responded that yes, they would LOVE to have me as part of their show.  I WAS JURIED IN - just like that!

PANIC!!!!

I've never done a show!

So now it had several significant implications - not the least of which was that it meant having to postpone my second carpal tunnel surgery.  I had actually been considering postponing it anyway, so this clinched it for me (although I still haven't made the call!)  So began the panic of display, product, procedures, security, and a whole bunch of other questions pouring through my mind and stealing sleep.

I met with Barbara at the Arboretum on Thursday, selected a covered and lockable space with electricity, and discussed some of the issues on my mind.  I also agreed to handle some of Sara Westermark's jewelry while she is away doing another show.  Fortunately Sara has some display materials I can borrow! She's a pro at doing successful shows, and she's a fellow artist at Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts and Artistry. How I wish she could be there to "walk" me through my first show.

So....I am producing like crazy and holding everything back for this show now.  Art in the Arboretum is Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11 at the New Hanover County Arboretum on Oleander Drive in Wilmington NC.

More photos to come!

This promises to be a glorious show with elegant examples of 2-D and 3-D art scattered throughout the beautiful gardens of the Arboretum.  If you're in town, I urge you to visit.
